Wall St extended hours sessions

Extended Hours lets you trade on Wall St for 9.5 extra hours each weekday – giving you more flexibility to act on news, earnings and market moves as they happen.

When are Extended Hours (EHT)?

Regular trading on Wall St runs from 9:30am to 4pm EST/EDT.

Extended Hours include two extra sessions:

  • Pre-market: 4am – 9:30am EST/EDT

  • After-hours: 4pm – 8pm EST/EDT

All times are Eastern Time, which means UTC-5 during Eastern Standard Time (EST) or UTC-4 during Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

You can check the current session and local times by heading to the top of the 'Invest' screen on Stake Web, or the bottom left of the 'Invest' screen on the app.

Understanding active sessions

  • A session tracker shows which session is active

  • Tap it to see:

    • Time left in the current session

    • All session times in your local timezone

    • Upcoming public holidays and early closes

If the market closes early (e.g. 1pm), the after-hours session starts then and ends at 5pm instead of 8pm (EST/EDT).

What do the moon and sunrise icons do?

Tap the moon (after-hours) or sunrise (pre-market) icons to show live pricing for those sessions. Toggle on or off any time via the icons, calendar bar or settings.

What are the risks of Extended Hours trading?

Outside regular hours, there are usually fewer buyers and sellers – which can lead to:

  • Lower liquidity

  • Slower execution times

  • Wider price spreads

  • More volatility

These effects can be even more pronounced when price-sensitive updates hit the market. Many trades in these sessions come from large institutions looking to reposition quickly. Only Limit orders can be placed and executed for EHT.

This means prices can swing more sharply – and you might not always get the price you expect.

Extended Hours trading isn’t for everyone. Consider your personal goals and risk tolerance before using it, and read our full risk disclaimers.
