Edit average buy price
How do I edit the average buy price for my ASX shares?
Sometimes, the correct average buy price isn't transferred over correctly after a share transfer or corporate action. Stake makes it easy to update your cost basis for ASX holdings directly on the platform.
On the app:
Open the stock's page by searching for it or tapping it from your Holdings table
Scroll to the Equity section
Tap Average buy price
In the Update average buy price section, enter your new figure and confirm.
On the web:
Open the stock's page by searching for it or clicking it from your Holdings table
In the top right corner, click the arrow next to Equity
This will reveal your average buy price
Hover over the average buy price line and click the edit icon
Enter your new figure and confirm.
Things to consider
Updates can take up to 24 hours to process, please do not try and update it again until the initial update is complete
Updating your cost basis affects unrealised gains only. It doesn't change historical investment events, past performance or your performance chart
Changes to your average buy price may impact financial year reports for the current reporting year, but won't alter previously generated reports
Keep all supporting documents like contract notes, dividend statements, and trade confirmations for your own records
This change may affect your tax reporting and portfolio performance figures
We recommend seeking independent, professional tax advice based on your individual circumstances
The data displayed on Stake is not a substitute for official tax documents.
If you’re unsure whether you need to update your average buy price, or something doesn’t look right after 24 hours, reach out to our support team and we’ll help you out.
