The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) requires a minimum investment of A$500 (excluding brokerage) when purchasing shares in any ASX-listed security for the first time. This is known as the ‘Minimum Marketable Parcel' (MMP) of shares. The MMP applies to all CHESS-sponsored trades.
Transferring shares from CommSec to Stake FAQs
Transferring shares from CommSec to Stake is simple and can be initiated directly on the Stake app. Follow the steps above to begin the share transfer process.
For some investing platforms, the share transfer process may require extra steps such as wet ink signatures, or additional documentation. We recommend visiting your existing broker’s website to understand their portfolio transfer journey.
Stake doesn’t charge fees to transfer shares from CommSec. Be sure to check if there are any applicable transfer fees that may apply from your departing platform.

Yes, you can transfer international holdings, such as U.S. shares, from CommSec to another broker. If you transfer U.S. shares worth US$500+ to Stake, you’ll receive a free Dropbox ($DBX) stock. T&Cs apply.
It only takes a few minutes to submit a share transfer request from CommSec to Stake, then we do all the heavy lifting. Processing times differ for ASX and Wall St transfers.
For ASX transfers: Once all necessary documents are submitted, stocks will typically reach your Stake HIN within 40 hours.
For Wall St transfers: Depending on the responsiveness of CommSec and the method of transfer, U.S. shares will usually arrive within 2-3 weeks of a confirmed submission. DTC transfers can take up to 4-6 weeks while ACATS transfers usually take up to 1-2 weeks.
