FAQs on share transfers

According to the Superhero website, 'At Superhero, we have appointed a sub-custodian to hold shares on behalf of our customers in Australia for safekeeping.'

With a custody structure, assets are held on your behalf by the custodian. This still means you are the full beneficial owner of the shares you purchase on their platform.

When signing up to Stake, CHESS-sponsorship automatically applies to your account and any ASX shares you buy on the platform will be held under your own name and HIN (instead of a custodian).

Learn more about CHESS here.

It only takes a few minutes to submit a share transfer request from Superhero to Stake, then we do all the heavy lifting. Processing times differ for ASX and Wall St transfers.

For ASX transfers: Once all necessary documents are submitted, stocks will typically reach your Stake HIN within 40 hours.

For Wall St transfers: Depending on the responsiveness of Superhero and the method of transfer, U.S. shares will usually arrive within 2-3 weeks of a confirmed submission. DTC transfers can take up to 4-6 weeks while ACATS transfers usually take up to 1-2 weeks.

We do everything in our power to make the transfer as seamless as possible, however, there can be delays due to unforeseen circumstances that are beyond our control. We’ll keep you informed of any updates should there be cause for delay.

Stake does not charge a fee to bring your shares over from Superhero. Ensure you check with your outgoing platform as they may charge additional fees for a transfer.

If you’re transferring U.S. shares, there may be additional charges depending on the share transfer method. You can read more about it here.

Please note, if you’re transferring the beneficial ownership of shares, also known as an Off-Market Transfer, additional fees may also apply. You can learn more about Off-Market transfers here.
