Alleghany Corporation owns and supports operating subsidiaries and manages investments. The Company is engaged in the property and casualty, reinsurance and insurance business through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Alleghany Insurance Holdings LLC (AIHL). The Company’s segments include reinsurance, insurance and Alleghany Capital. The reinsurance segment consists of property and casualty reinsurance operations conducted by TransRe’s reinsurance operating subsidiaries. It consists of two product lines, property, and casualty & specialty. Property includes fire; allied lines; auto physical damage; and homeowners multiple peri. Casualty & specialty include medical malpractice; ocean marine, and credit. The insurance segment consists of property and casualty insurance operations conducted in the U.S. by AIHL through RSUI and CapSpecialty. The Alleghany Capital segment consists of industrial operations, non-industrial operations and corporate operations at the Alleghany Capital level.
