Summary
You can earn a Transfer Reward equal to 1% of the value of an eligible portfolio you transfer to Stake. The maximum reward you can earn is USD $10,000. The reward applies to your first Qualifying Transfer only with a minimum transfer value of USD $2,500. You can transfer your entire portfolio or just selected holdings. All amounts are in U.S. dollars.
The Reward is paid monthly in cash over 12 months and will appear in your Stake account as ‘buying power’. It is yours to use as you choose, including investing in shares, leaving it as cash, or withdrawing it, subject to these terms and Stake's normal withdrawal process.
This is an ongoing offer, not a limited-time promotion, but we can change, pause or withdraw it (see clause 8). A change does not take away a Reward you have already earned. From time to time, we may offer different Reward structures. The limits that apply to you are the ones published when you start your transfer.
To keep receiving eligible Reward payments, you must keep your transferred assets with Stake. You can still sell your assets and hold the cash with Stake, and you can make Net Cash Withdrawals in line with the Offer Settings (standard: 20%) of your transferred value, over a 12 month period. For example, if you transfer USD $100,000, you can withdraw up to USD $20,000 in cash over the 12 month period without affecting your remaining eligible Reward payments.
If you transfer assets out to another provider during the Reward Period, your remaining payments stop. Selling shares on Stake, market movements, or withdrawing cash within your withdrawal allowance, does not stop your reward payments. (see clauses 5 and 6).
If you transfer assets out of Stake after this offer opens, you can't earn a Reward by transferring back in for 12 months (see clause 3).
If you obtain a Reward through fraud, misrepresentation or by non-compliance with these terms, we can stop it, reduce it or recover it.
If your account is restricted or suspended, Reward payments pause. If the suspension was caused by your breach of Stake’s Account Terms and Conditions, payments falling due during the suspension are forfeited.
A Reward, and the transfer itself, may have tax consequences. Everyone’s tax position is different and Stake does not provide tax advice. You are responsible for your own tax position and should consider seeking independent advice.
Eligibility conditions apply, see the full terms below.
Full terms
1. Promoter and offer period
1.1 This promotion is offered by Stakeshop Pty Ltd, an Australian company registered in New Zealand as an overseas company (NZBN 9429047452152) and as a financial service provider (FSP774414) (“Stake”, “we”, “us”). Stake is a member of Financial Services Complaints Limited (FSCL), an approved dispute resolution scheme. Stake is also the promoter.
1.2 The offer applies to a Qualifying Transfer initiated on or after Launch Date and continuing until changed or withdrawn under clause 8.
1.3 This is an ongoing offer that replaces Stake’s previous standing transfer incentive. It is not a limited-time promotion, but it may be changed or withdrawn under clause 8.
1.4 Promotional variations. From time to time, Stake may run this offer with different Offer Settings for a stated period of time (a variation). If we do:
(a) the variation’s Offer Settings, and its start and end dates, will be published on the website and app offer pages before you can initiate a Qualifying Transfer under it;
(b) these terms apply to the variation, by substituting the variation’s Offer Settings in place of the standard key elements;
(c) the Offer Settings that apply to you are those published when your Qualifying Transfer is initiated. They will not change for that transfer once it is initiated, except as set out in clauses 8.3 and 9;
(d) you can earn the Reward once only, counted across the standard offer and all variations, unless the published variation terms say otherwise (see clause 3.2);
(e) Stake may end a variation early by updating the offer page and may change or withdraw the standard offer under clause 8. Ending a variation, or the offer, does not affect the Reward on a Qualifying Transfer initiated before the offer or variation ended.
2. Definitions
Funding means: cash you deposit into your Stake account calculated as the USD amount credited to your account after any currency conversion and applicable fees. It does not include dividends, interest, corporate-action proceeds, Reward payments, or proceeds from selling assets within your account
Launch Date means: the date the offer opens as published on the website and app offer pages. A Qualifying Transfer must be initiated on or after this date.
Net Cash Withdrawals means: the total USD cash you instruct Stake to withdraw from your Stake account to your nominated external bank account during the Reward Period, less any Funding you make during that period. Withdrawals are calculated as the gross value of the USD amount you instruct to withdraw, i.e. before any currency conversion and applicable fees. All other movements of cash into or out of your account are excluded from your withdrawal allowance described in clause 5, for example dividends, interest, corporate-action proceeds, Reward payments, or the proceeds from selling assets that remain in your Stake account.
Offer Settings means: the key elements of your Reward being: the reward rate (standard: 1% of Transferred Value), the reward cap (standard: USD $10,000), the number of monthly payments and the length of your Reward Period (standard: 12), and the cash withdrawal allowance (standard: 20% of Transferred Value). The Offer Settings that apply to you are those in force for the offer, or the variation, under which your Qualifying Transfer is initiated (see clause 1.4).
Outbound Portfolio Transfer (or Outbound Transfer) means: a transfer of US-listed equities and/or USD cash initiated by you (or on your instruction) from Stake to another broker or custodian. It does not include a sale of assets on the Stake platform, a cash withdrawal, or an involuntary transfer or disposal not initiated by you. An Outbound Portfolio Transfer occurs, and is valued in USD as calculated by Stake, on the date the assets leave your Stake account.
Promotional Abuse (gaming) means (and is not limited to): transferring assets out and back (directly or via another platform) to trigger or re-trigger a reward; splitting holdings across multiple accounts or identities to multiply rewards or evade the cap; timing cash movements out and back into your account to get around your withdrawal allowance; providing false or misleading information; coordinated or collusive transfers designed to capture rewards without a genuine change of platform.
Qualifying Transfer means: an inbound transfer to Stake of eligible US-listed equities (being securities supported for trading and custody on the Stake platform) and/or USD cash, from an account with another broker or platform, with a Transferred Value of at least USD $2,500, initiated on or after Launch Date. All assets and cash accepted by Stake under the transfer must settle within 30 days of initiation. If your transfer does not settle within the 30-day period, it is not a Qualifying Transfer and no Reward is payable on it. Assets Stake does not support are excluded from the transfer, from this 30-day period and from your Transferred Value. The 30-day period is extended due to any delay outside your reasonable control, including delay caused by your transferring broker or by Stake. An account with Stake or any related Stake service is not another broker or platform for this purpose.
Reward Period means: the period beginning on the Transfer Completion Date and running for the number of monthly payments in your Offer Settings (standard: 12 months).
Transferred Value means: the sum of the USD values of the assets and cash that settled in your Stake account under your Qualifying Transfer. Each asset is valued at its closing market price on the date it settles in your Stake account. Cash is valued at the USD amount that settles. Your Transferred Value is determined on the Transfer Completion Date.
Transfer Completion Date means: the date on which Stake confirms that the assets and cash under your Qualifying Transfer have settled in your Stake account.
Transfer Reward (or Reward) means: an amount equal to the reward rate in your Offer Settings (standard: 1%) of your Transferred Value, capped at the reward cap in your Offer Settings (standard: USD $10,000), paid to you in USD cash in up to the number of monthly payments in your Offer Settings (standard: 12) over your Reward Period. The Reward is displayed in the Stake app as “buying power”. It is your money, you can use it to invest or withdraw it, subject to these terms and Stake’s normal withdrawal process.
3. Eligibility
3.1 The offer is open to new and existing Stake customers who complete a Qualifying Transfer.
3.2 The Reward applies to your first Qualifying Transfer only, counted across the standard offer and any variation under clause 1.4.
3.3 A Qualifying Transfer must be initiated on or after Launch Date.
3.4 If an Outbound Transfer occurs on or after Launch Date, you cannot earn a Reward by transferring assets back within 12 months after it occurs. Transfers out before Launch Date do not affect your eligibility.
3.5 Before you start a transfer, you will be asked to review and accept these terms in the transfer flow. By submitting your transfer request, you confirm you have read, understood and accepted these terms, and you authorise Stake to initiate the transfer of your nominated assets and cash, and to receive them into your Stake account. Stake does not charge for inbound portfolio transfers. Your current broker may charge you to transfer out.
3.6 All transfers are subject to Stake’s review and approval, including identity, eligibility and AML/CFT checks. Stake may request information from you (including as to source of funds or wealth) at any time, and may decline or delay a transfer where checks are not satisfied.
3.7 Delays outside your control: if your transfer is delayed or disrupted by something outside your reasonable control (including a delay caused by your transferring broker or by Stake), you will not lose eligibility for the Reward because of it. The 30-day period is extended by the length of the delay (see the Qualifying Transfer definition), and your Reward is calculated on the Transferred Value ultimately received.
3.8 Stake may decline a transfer at its discretion before acceptance.
3.9 Your current provider may charge transfer out or other exit fees. Those costs are between you and them.
4. The Transfer Reward
4.1 The Reward equals 1% of Transferred Value, up to a maximum of USD $10,000.
4.2 Each Reward payment is yours to use as you choose, including investing in shares, leaving it as cash, or withdrawing it, subject to these terms and Stake's normal withdrawal process.
4.3 The Reward is paid in up to 12 monthly payments, each equal to one-twelfth of your Reward (subject to clause 5). The first payment is paid within 15 days after the end of the calendar month in which your Transfer Completion Date falls, and each later payment within 15 days after each following month-end. For example, if your transfer completes on 2 June, your first payment is made by 15 July.
4.4 Reward payments, and any proceeds from investing a Reward, are not counted as Net Cash Withdrawals or as Funding.
4.5 If you obtain a Reward through fraud, Promotional Abuse, misrepresentation or a breach of these terms, Stake may stop, reduce or recover it (see clause 9).
4.6 All amounts in these terms are in U.S. dollars. Reward payments are credited in USD as ‘buying power’ in your account. If you convert to NZD (such as when you withdraw to a New Zealand bank account), Stake’s standard foreign exchange rates and fees apply — see the Pricing Schedule on the Stake website.
5. Withdrawals during the Reward Period
5.1 You may make Net Cash Withdrawals of up to your withdrawal allowance (standard: 20% of your Transferred Value) over the Reward Period without it affecting your Reward. Only cash you withdraw to your bank account counts toward your allowance. Selling shares, leaving cash with Stake, dividends you receive and movements in the market value of your investments do not count.
5.2 If your withdrawals stay within your withdrawal allowance, your Reward is not affected.
5.3 Your Net Cash Withdrawals are assessed on the last day of each calendar month. If at that date, they exceed your withdrawal allowance, no Reward payment is made for that month.
5.4 Your Reward payments resume from the next month end at which your Net Cash Withdrawals are back within your withdrawal allowance (for example after a Funding). A payment not made under clause 5.3 is forfeited and will not be made up.
5.5 Your withdrawal allowance only affects whether a Reward payment is made. It does not restrict your access to your Reward payment once paid. Withdrawals you instruct are processed in accordance with Stake’s normal processing times.
6. Transferring assets out of Stake
6.1 The Reward is provided on the basis that you keep your transferred assets with Stake during the Reward Period. If you make an Outbound Portfolio Transfer during the Reward Period, no further Reward payments are payable and any remaining payments are forfeited. Any payments already paid to you are not affected.
6.2 This does not affect your ability to withdraw cash within the limit in clause 5, or to sell assets and hold the proceeds with Stake. Selling assets, and any fall in the value of your assets due to market movements, do not affect your Reward.
6.3 If any Outbound Portfolio Transfer occurs from your Stake account during your Reward Period, clause 6.1 applies and your remaining payments stop. This applies whatever the size of the transfer. Your withdrawal allowance under clause 5 is separate and is not affected.
7. Account closure, restriction and suspension
7.1 Reward payments are made to your Stake account. If you voluntarily decide to close your account, no further Reward payments are payable. Reward payments already paid to you are not affected and will not be recovered, except as set out in clauses 8.3 or 9.
7.2 If Stake closes your account, any payments that had fallen due but had not yet been paid will be paid to your nominated bank account within 30 days. This does not apply, and no due or further payments will be made, if we close your account because of conduct described in clause 9, because you have seriously or repeatedly breached Stake’s Account Terms and Conditions (including its rules on the Customer Code of Conduct) or where the law requires or causes us to close it, or prevents us from paying. Reward payments will not be made while your account is restricted or suspended under Stake's Account Terms and Conditions. If the restriction or suspension resulted from your breach of those terms, a payment that falls due during it is forfeited and will not be made up. Otherwise, withheld payments are paid when your account is restored. A restriction or suspension does not extend your Reward Period.
7.3 Because a Stake account can only be closed once its balance is zero, closing your account means you will already have withdrawn or transferred out your balance.
8. Changes to, or withdrawal of, the offer
8.1 This is an ongoing offer, not a limited-time promotion. Stake may change, suspend, pause or end the offer at any time, including for business or customer reasons, or for regulatory, legal or risk reasons. Stake will do this by giving reasonable notice including by updating these terms on our website and notifying enrolled customers about any material or detrimental amendments 30 days before they come into effect.
8.2 Changes to these Terms apply only to Qualifying Transfers started after the change takes effect. If you started your Qualifying Transfer before then, your Reward will not be reduced, cancelled, suspended or delayed because of that change, except as set out in clauses 8.3 and 9. If we need to make an immediate change for technical, operational, risk, legal or regulatory reasons, we may do so without advance notice. If this happens, we will notify you as soon as reasonably practicable.
8.3 Stake may suspend, reduce, withhold or recover a Reward (including one already accrued) where required to do so by law or by a regulator, or where clause 9 applies. Where practicable, and unless the law prevents us from doing so, Stake will give notice and reasons.
8.4 The current terms of the offer will be available to you before you start a transfer, and subject to clause 8.2, we will tell you of any material or detrimental changes to you 30 days before the changes take effect.
9. Integrity and Promotional Abuse
9.1 Stake may withhold, reduce, recover, reverse or delay a Reward, or remove a customer from the offer, where Stake reasonably determines on objective evidence that the customer has engaged in Promotional Abuse. Promotional Abuse includes but is not limited to, circular or repeated transfers in and out, directly or via cash or another platform, to trigger a Reward; coordinated claims across multiple accounts, or providing false or misleading information; or otherwise acting to obtain a Reward contrary to these terms.
9.2 Where Stake takes action under clause 9.1, it will give the customer notice and the reason (unless the law prevents us from doing so) and will keep a record of the decision and the evidence relied upon.
9.3 Where Stake reasonably determines on objective evidence that a Reward was obtained through fraud, Promotional Abuse, misrepresentation, the provision of false or misleading information, or a breach of these terms, Stake may recover the amount of any Reward payment already paid that is attributable to that conduct, in addition to withholding or reducing future Reward payments. Stake will, where practicable, give notice and the reason (unless the law prevents us from doing so) and keep a record of that determination.
9.4 If Stake is entitled to recover an amount under clause 9.3, we may recover it through legally acceptable means, for example but not limited to:
(a) by setting it off against any future Reward payments;
(b) by deducting it from available cash in your Stake account. By taking part in this offer, you authorise Stake to make that deduction. We will give you notice before we do;
(c) by asking you to repay it. If you do not, the amount is a debt you owe Stake, and we may recover it through normal debt recovery processes.
9.5 Stake will only recover the amount attributable to the conduct described in clause 9.3. Stake will not otherwise deduct from, block or delay access to your funds except to the extent required or permitted by law.
10. Tax
The Reward is paid as cash and may be taxable income for you. A transfer of assets to Stake may also have tax consequences. You may need to consider the New Zealand tax treatment of transferring the assets, and the treatment under New Zealand’s foreign investment fund (FIF) and financial arrangement rules. Stake does not provide tax advice. Inland Revenue has provided guidance for investors who use online investment platforms or hold investments through brokers and financial advisors. You are responsible for your own tax position and should seek independent advice.
11. Anti-money laundering
The offer and any Reward payments are subject to Stake’s obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009. Stake may require information from you (including as to source of funds or wealth) before completing a transfer or paying a Reward, and may delay, withhold, decline or reverse a transfer, withdrawal or Reward where necessary to meet its legal or regulatory obligations.
12. General
12.1 These terms are governed by New Zealand law. You and Stake submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
12.2 These terms operate alongside Stake’s Account Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. If there is any inconsistency in relation to this offer, these terms prevail to the extent of the inconsistency.
12.3 This offer is general information only and is not financial advice. It does not take account of your objectives, financial situation or needs. Transferring may have consequences for you, including your current provider’s fees, the treatment of fractional shareholdings (generally only whole shares can be transferred and any remaining fractions of a share will remain in your portfolio, however fractional shares may be supported from certain brokers), being unable to trade affected assets while the transfer completes, and tax. Consider whether transferring is right for you and seek advice if you need it.
12.4 We collect and use your personal information to administer this offer, verify eligibility, pay Rewards, recover amounts owed, and detect and prevent fraud or abuse, in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 2020.
12.5 Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law that cannot be excluded.
12.6 References to 'you' include your legal personal representative.
13. Complaints
If you have a complaint about this offer, you can contact us through the Stake website or app and we will follow our complaints process. If we cannot resolve your complaint, you can contact Financial Services Complaints Limited (FSCL), a free and independent dispute resolution scheme, at complaints@fscl.org.nz or 0800 347 257.
