How can we help?

Wall St delisting of securities

What happens if a security is delisted?

In some cases, you might hold a security that’s been voluntarily or involuntarily delisted from an exchange – meaning it’s no longer available to trade or view on Stake platform.

Securities can be delisted for a few reasons, including:

  • The company ceasing operations or declaring bankruptcy

  • A corporate action, such as a takeover or merger

  • A transition to private ownership

  • Failure to meet the exchange’s listing requirements

If your position has been delisted, any attempt to place a sell order may be rejected. In some cases, the security may have moved to the OTC Markets. If so, you’ll see an ‘OTC’ tag next to the stock in your portfolio and be able to sell it using a limit order with an end-of-day expiry.

If the stock has been fully cancelled – for example, due to bankruptcy – it will remain visible in your portfolio until the issuer instructs our broker partner to remove it. We’re unable to remove these positions ahead of that process.
