Who can sign-up and open a Stake account?
To apply for an individual Stake account, you’ll need to:
- Be 18 years or older
- Be a New Zealand resident
- Be a New Zealand citizen or hold a valid visa (student visa, working visa etc)
- Provide a valid government-issued ID (e.g. passport or driver licence), or a certified copy of an overseas passport
- Have a New Zealand bank account in your name
It’s free to open a Stake account and it usually only takes a few minutes.
Because we operate in a regulated environment, we need to verify your identity as part of this process before you can fund your account and start investing in the U.S. market.
Can I sign-up if I’m not a Kiwi or if I have an overseas passport?
Yes, you can still apply for an account as long as you meet the eligibility criteria above. For overseas passports, a certified copy is required.
Can I sign up if I’m a U.S. citizen?
Yes, U.S. citizens can apply for an account, provided they meet the requirements above. You’ll also need to provide your Social Security Number during the sign-up process.
What happens if I am living overseas?
You need to meet the eligibility criteria above to apply for an account. You may be able to continue using Stake while living overseas depending on your personal circumstances. Please reach out to our support team if you move overseas or have any questions about using Stake while being overseas so they can clarify your situation.
