Top 7 crypto ETFs to watch in 2026

Bitcoin or ether prices drive spot ETFs directly. Blockchain equity ETFs also move with company earnings, not crypto prices alone.

Crypto ETFs hold either a digital asset directly – bitcoin or ether – or shares in companies developing blockchain technology. The seven funds on this list split between those two approaches, with iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF ($IBIT) and Bitwise Bitcoin ETF ($BITB) among the direct-asset holders, and Amplify Blockchain Technology ETF ($BLOK) representing the equity side.

How we built this list: We selected these funds based on their industry or investment category and ordered them by assets under management. Prices are updated daily, and the list and supporting content are reviewed roughly every quarter. All data is sourced from Stake. This list isn't a recommendation and isn't ordered by suitability.

1. iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF ($IBIT)

chart-crypto-etfs-list-new-and-upcoming-NZ-IBIT.png

iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) share price over the last year: started at US$71.29, ended at US$48.49, a change of −32.0%. Range over the period: high US$71.29, low US$33.29. Source: Stake market data. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Price: US$48.49 · Daily: -0.1% · AUM: US$68.99B · MER: 0.25%

The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF ($IBIT) is structured to reflect the price of bitcoin, with each share intended to move broadly in line with the cryptocurrency's value. The Trust aims to deliver that exposure before its own expenses and liabilities are factored in.

Buying bitcoin directly means acquiring and managing the asset yourself. $IBIT is designed as an alternative – investors hold shares in the Trust, which in turn holds bitcoin.

Unlike the equity-focused funds on this list, $IBIT holds bitcoin itself rather than shares in companies operating in the blockchain sector. The fund's value is intended to follow bitcoin's price, without exposure to corporate earnings or business results.

2. Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund ($FBTC)

chart-crypto-etfs-list-new-and-upcoming-NZ-FBTC.png

Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) share price over the last year: started at US$109.44, ended at US$74.48, a change of −31.9%. Range over the period: high US$109.44, low US$51.05. Source: Stake market data. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Price: US$74.48 · Daily: -0.09% · AUM: US$15.66B · MER: 0.25%

The Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund ($FBTC) holds bitcoin directly, aiming to track bitcoin's price performance as measured by its reference index. Fidelity prices the fund's shares daily at 4pm Eastern Time using the same methodology that underpins that index. The fund adjusts for its own expenses and liabilities, so the net return won't exactly match bitcoin's raw price movement.

$FBTC's mandate is narrow – it tracks bitcoin and nothing else, with no equity exposure or allocation to other digital assets. That means the fund's value is tied to bitcoin's price rather than to the broader sharemarket.

3. iShares Ethereum Trust ETF ($ETHA)

chart-crypto-etfs-list-new-and-upcoming-NZ-ETHA.png

iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) share price over the last year: started at US$35.79, ended at US$60.89, a change of +70.1%. Range over the period: high US$60.89, low US$11.74. Source: Stake market data. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Price: US$60.89 · Daily: 198.0% · AUM: US$9.94B · MER: 0.23%

The iShares Ethereum Trust ETF ($ETHA) is designed to track the price of ether, the native digital asset of the Ethereum network. Its shares are intended to reflect ether's price performance before the trust's fees and liabilities are deducted. Unlike the equity-side funds in this article, $ETHA holds the asset directly rather than investing in companies that build or use blockchain technology.

4. Bitwise Bitcoin ETF ($BITB)

chart-crypto-etfs-list-new-and-upcoming-NZ-BITB.png

Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) share price over the last year: started at US$68.27, ended at US$46.47, a change of −31.9%. Range over the period: high US$68.27, low US$31.86. Source: Stake market data. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Price: US$46.47 · Daily: -0.1% · AUM: US$3.24B · MER: 0.20%

Unlike the equity-based funds on this list, Bitwise Bitcoin ETF ($BITB) holds bitcoin directly through the trust. The fund aims to reflect the value of those holdings, less the trust's operating costs. Daily pricing uses the Bitcoin Reference Rate – New York Variant, a defined benchmark intended to track spot bitcoin values.

5. Amplify Blockchain Technology ETF ($BLOK)

chart-crypto-etfs-list-new-and-upcoming-NZ-BLOK.png

Amplify Blockchain Technology ETF (BLOK) share price over the last year: started at US$72.00, ended at US$61.96, a change of −13.9%. Range over the period: high US$74.10, low US$47.36. Source: Stake market data. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Price: US$61.96 · Daily: -0.02% · AUM: US$1.12B · MER: 0.70%

Amplify Blockchain Technology ETF ($BLOK) takes an equity approach to blockchain, investing in companies that are actively developing or using the technology rather than holding digital assets directly. It's actively managed – a portfolio team selects the holdings rather than following a fixed index. The fund's mandate requires at least 80% of net assets to go into these blockchain-related equities.

6. VanEck Digital Transformation ETF ($DAPP)

chart-crypto-etfs-list-new-and-upcoming-NZ-DAPP.png

VanEck Digital Transformation ETF (DAPP) share price over the last year: started at US$24.90, ended at US$19.05, a change of −23.5%. Range over the period: high US$26.49, low US$13.72. Source: Stake market data. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Price: US$19.05 · Daily: -0.3% · AUM: US$421.2M · MER: 0.50%

VanEck Digital Transformation ETF ($DAPP) is designed to track the MVIS Global Digital Assets Equity Index, a global index that covers companies operating in the digital assets space. Rather than holding bitcoin or ether directly, the fund invests in the shares of companies whose business is tied to the digital transformation economy.

According to the fund's mandate, at least 80% of its assets are held in securities of what the index classifies as Digital Transformation Companies. That means the exposure here is to equity, not to a cryptocurrency itself – so the fund's performance reflects how those businesses perform, not just the price of an underlying digital asset.

The index is global in scope, pulling in companies from multiple markets rather than focusing on any single country. That's a structural point worth understanding: the fund's return profile is shaped by company earnings, market sentiment around the sector, and equity market movements, alongside whatever influence digital asset prices have on the underlying businesses.

7. Global X Blockchain ETF ($BKCH)

chart-crypto-etfs-list-new-and-upcoming-NZ-BKCH.png

Global X Blockchain ETF (BKCH) share price over the last year: started at US$101.50, ended at US$69.94, a change of −31.1%. Range over the period: high US$120.71, low US$51.82. Source: Stake market data. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Price: US$69.94 · Daily: -0.10% · AUM: US$292.0M · MER: 0.50%

Global X Blockchain ETF ($BKCH) is designed to track the Solactive Blockchain Index. The index targets companies positioned to benefit from further advances in blockchain technology. That means the portfolio holds company shares rather than digital assets such as bitcoin or ether.

$BKCH's stated objective is to correspond generally to both the price and yield performance of the index, before fees and expenses. The fund's composition is determined by the Solactive index's criteria for blockchain exposure. As those criteria are reviewed and updated, the holdings can shift accordingly.

Common questions

How do I invest in crypto ETFs in New Zealand?

All seven funds in this list trade on U.S. exchanges, so you'd access them through a share trading platform that supports U.S. markets. You search the ticker and place an order the same way you would for any U.S.-listed share.

What are the key risks of crypto ETFs?

Some of the key risks include the price volatility of bitcoin and ether, which can move sharply in either direction over short periods. Blockchain equity ETFs add company-specific risk on top of that – the underlying companies can face regulatory pressure or business setbacks regardless of what crypto prices are doing. For NZ investors, the NZD/USD exchange rate is also a factor: movements between the two currencies affect what a purchase costs and what sale proceeds are worth in NZD. Regulatory treatment of crypto assets varies across jurisdictions and can change, which may affect the funds or the assets they hold.

What's the difference between a spot crypto ETF and a blockchain equity ETF?

Spot crypto ETFs hold the actual cryptocurrency. $IBIT, $FBTC and $BITB hold bitcoin directly; $ETHA holds ether. Their value moves with the price of the underlying asset. Blockchain equity ETFs – $BLOK, $DAPP and $BKCH – hold shares in companies involved in blockchain technology, so their performance depends on those businesses rather than crypto prices alone.
