We partner with several companies to deliver a seamless, intuitive and safe investing experience.
Stake and its partners are regulated across Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Below you’ll find more details and what this means for you.
Stake
- In Australia, one of our companies, Stakeshop AFSL Pty Ltd, holds an Australian Financial Services Licence no. 548196 issued by ASIC and has authorised Stakeshop Pty Ltd trading as Stake as its authorised representative (Authorised Representative No. 1241398) of to provide certain financial services.
- In the UK, we are authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FRN: 830771) as Hellostake Limited.
- In New Zealand, Stake is a Registered Financial Services Provider under the Financial Services Providers Act 2008 (No. FSP774414).
Our Partners
We provide a trading platform for our customers to trade stocks on certain U.S. and Australian stock exchanges (including Cboe and the ASX), however Stake itself is not a direct participant on the stock exchanges. Instead we have partnered with reputable and experienced licensed brokers to provide these services to you.
For Stake AUS, we have partnered with FinClear Execution Ltd (AFSL no. 246842) who execute our customers’ trades on Australian listed exchanges. FinClear Execution Ltd is an ASX Market Participant. These trades are cleared and settled by FinClear Pty Ltd (AFSL no. 481017). On Stake AUS, customers’ Australian shares are held under the customers’ own Holder Identification Numbers (HIN) on the CHESS subregister. You can read more about HINs and the CHESS subregister here. The AUD funds of Stake AUS customers are held by our licensee, Stakeshop AFSL Pty Ltd, on trust in a client money account at an Australian bank in compliance with Australian law.
For Stake Wall St, we have partnered with DriveWealth LLC who provides execution (itself and via its affiliate DriveWealth Institutional LLC), clearance, settlement, custody and cashiering services to Stake customers. DriveWealth LLC is a U.S. broker-dealer regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) (No. 8-69161) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) (CRD no. 165429). On Stake Wall St, customers’ US shares are held on trust by Depository Trust Company (DTC), which is a member of the US Federal Reserve System. The USD funds of Stake Wall St customers are held by DriveWealth at JP Morgan and swept daily into a money market fund, Dreyfus Government Cash Management fund (DAGXX), the units of which are held by the Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon). BNY Mellon is supervised and regulated by the NY State Department of Financial Services and US Federal Reserve and is authorised by the US Prudential Regulation Authority (Firm Reference No. 122467). DriveWealth is a member of the Securities Investment Protection Corporation (SIPC) – which protects Stake customers who have U.S. securities for up to US$500,000 (including US$250,000 for claims for cash) in the event that DriveWealth goes bankrupt or is in financial trouble. Stake has also partnered with Airwallex Pty Ltd (AFSL no. 487221) to better facilitate customer management of their individual funds on Stake AUS and Stake Wall St. Airwallex provides Stake’s customers with a virtual wallet, and it also provides FX transfers and remittance services.
Airwallex sits behind each FX transaction, ensuring that funds are transferred in a timely and affordable manner to your U.S. investing account. Airwallex is regulated globally:
- In the U.S. as a licensed money transmitter (NMLS #1928093).
- In Australia, by ASIC (AFS Licence number 487221).
- In NZ, as a financial service provider on the Financial Service Providers Register (#1001602).
- In the UK, by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN: 900876).
Other partners are involved in bringing you better, safer access to the U.S. stock market, including:
- Trulioo - For the digital verification services required to meet our KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti Money Laundering) requirements.
- Tiingo - Our data provider for market and company information you see on Stake.
- Checkout.com - A global payments platform.
