What I'm Trading - Vipin

Reminding the world that it’s never too late to get started, Vipin is a disciple of Buffett and Munger. Here’s how this analyst in the pharmaceutical industry allocates his portfolio.

Occupation: Market Analyst

Industry: Pharmaceuticals

Age: 26

Location: NSW, Australia

Hobbies/Interesting Fact About You: Sport, food, binge watching shows and perusing the internet.

Stake portfolio size: US$25,000

What was your first investment on Stake?

I first bought the iShares Russell Top 200 Pure Growth ETF (IWY) on Stake.

In one sentence, define your investing style.

I strive to live by the great rule of Warren Buffet… “The first rule of an investment is don’t lose money”.

What’s in your Stake portfolio right now?

Alphabet (GOOGL), Apple (AAPL), Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B), American Express (AXP), Anheuser Busch Inbev (BUD), Salesforce (CRM), Alibaba (BABA), General Motors (GM), Microsoft (MSFT), SAP (SAP).

How are your returns so far?

I can’t complain. Not as extravagant as others. I’m sitting on a handy 20.54% return to date.

What are you watching? Why?

I’m watching stocks like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) as I’m interested in getting into the semiconductor market. Aside from that, I watch a lot of the well-known stocks (Nike, Walmart, UPS etc.) so I can see when an opportunity arises.

Do you have a trading or investing role model?

Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger are my role models.

What’s a piece of advice you’d give a newbie?

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. It’s never too late to invest.

What’s one mistake you’ve made and what did you learn from it?

Buying stocks that had no moat or strong financials. I learnt that it’s easy to forget the golden rule of investing; “Never lose money”. I learnt that it’s better to make boring but sound investments that give a handy return rather than being greedy.

If you were to buy a US stock or ETF right now, what would you buy? Why?

I would love to buy Amazon (AMZN). I think it’s such a strong market leader and it has a lot of different revenue streams, which makes it such a powerhouse company.

ICYMI: make your own decisions

This is not investment advice, just my opinion. It doesn’t reflect any opinions of Stake. I’m as fresh to this as the next person off the street. Do your own research and make your own decisions.
