What was your first investment on Stake?

My first purchase was Bank of America (BAC).

In one sentence, define your investing style.

I like to imagine what industries will grow in the near future and search for discounted companies that will benefit. Companies involved with 5G technologies like Nokia (NOK) or Ericsson (ERIC), and Covid vaccine stocks like Pfizer (PFE) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ).

What’s in your Stake portfolio right now?

Bank of America (BAC), Meta (FB), Apple (APPL), Pfizer (PFE), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Microsoft (MSFT), Vanguard Value Index ETF (VTV), Global x Lithium & Battery Tech ETF (LIT), VanEck Rare Earth/Strategic metals ETF (REMX) and iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX).

How are your returns so far?

My SMSF is up 25% and my personal account has gained 6%.

What are you watching? Why?

I’m picking battery technology and the internet of things (IoT) to be a major industry in the near future, so I will be increasing my holdings in the Global X Lithium & Battery Tech ETF (LIT), VanEck Rare Earth/Strategic Metals ETF (REMX) and iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX).

Do you have a trading or investing role model?

Warren Buffett for creating a set of rules and sticking to them, finding companies that have been unfairly punished by the market and buying when there is blood in the streets.

What’s a piece of advice you’d give a newbie?

Read investment books, listen to investment podcasts. Find an investment style that resonates with you, this will keep investing fun for you.

What’s one mistake you’ve made and what did you learn from it?

Buying an overpriced company just to have it in my portfolio. Let the numbers make a purchase decision, not your emotion.

If you were to buy a US stock or ETF right now, what would you buy? Why?

VanEck Rare Earth/Strategic Metals ETF (REMX) as rare earth metals will fuel our future (batteries, IoT, electronics, green energy components).

ICYMI: make your own decisions

This is not investment advice, just my opinion. It doesn’t reflect any opinions of Stake. I’m as fresh to this as the next person off the street. Do your own research and make your own decisions.
