The minimum investment on the ASX is $500 (excluding brokerage) when buying a specific stock for the first time. This is known as the “minimum marketable parcel” and is a requirement for all CHESS sponsored investments under your own HIN. There is no minimum purchase size if you hold shares in a specific stock.

The most common way to buy shares in Australia online is by signing up with an online brokerage. Getting started with a broker like Stake is quick and easy.

It will cost $3 brokerage for trades up to $30,000, or 0.01% on trades above $30,000 (in AUD for Stake AUS and USD for Stake Wall St). With Stake, a CHESS-sponsored broker, all ASX shares you buy will be held under your own HIN.
